Vintage Pattern Giveaway

Maybes you've already read Gertie's post on Vintage Pattern Sizing, maybes you haven't. She's a damn clever one, that lady. I have to say, her post made me finally accept something that I've been trying to ignore for some time. I've been buying the wrong size vintage patterns. I've learnt this after massive eBay sessions which have seen my collection swell to a number I have yet to admit (and seeing as they are presently spread over two countries, I don't need to just yet). I didn't realise about the whole measuring your top bust rather than full bust thing to determine your size, so I have a whole heap of 36" bust patterns that are going to take some grading if they are to fit my 34" bust frame.

Now, as Gertie points out, it's not the end of the world. Grading one size down is theorectically do-able. Except I'm lazy. Therefore I've decided to have a giveaway to re-house a couple of 36" bust patterns that I've already tried and decided are too big and too much hassle to re-size if I were to use them again. Lucky you!

Both patterns are used but complete and in good condition. Neither pattern is dated, but I'd estimate both are from about 1970. I'm giving them away together, so if you would like them to be yours, leave a comment with an email address (I'm a busy lady, no time for hunting out ways to contact you!) and I'll pick a winner at midnight on Sunday 27th June. Just copy, paste and complete the following sentence: 'I would like these patterns because.......'. I love a bit of audience participation, me.

I would like these patterns because... I have got the same colour hair as the girl in the yellow coat on one of the patterns, and would love to the make a coat like hers (but because yellow makes my skin look the colour of a corn fed chicken I would make it in teal)!

I would like these patterns because....... These patterns are from the 1970s. My mother was a teenager in the 70s and I would like to make the sort of thing she might have worn (being 18 myself).

I would like these patterns because I read that same blog post by Gertie, and it turns out I need 36" patterns not 38" ones! In fact that post made so much sense of a lot of fitting issues I have been having.

I would like these patterns because they are adorable! Plus I could use more cooler weather patterns in my size to sew from.

'I would like these patterns because.......' that coat in the bottom one so SO cute! If I added ruffles it could be very Bess. I've been thinking about sewing a coat for some time now.

I would like these patterns because I'm trying to create a new way of dressing for myself. It's been pretty much the same for the last couple of years and now that I am sewing my own clothes, I can make whatever I want in all the colors and fabrics I want. The sky is the limit. That yellow jacket on 9207 pattern looks fab and I wouldn't mind having that hanging in my closet.

Oh and guess what? My bust size is 36". Perfect!

I would like these patterns because...I really want to start sewing garments from vintage patterns, and these would be beautiful additions to my wardrobe! (especially the yellow coat design...I'd LOVE to learn how to make myself a coat!) Also, I happen to be a size 36 bust.

That Gertie post was a revelation for me, no wonder everything I made when I first started sewing was so enormous and I had to go down multiple sizes from what I was first picking. I learned to pick my actual dress size (or one down, depending on the company) instead of what I thought were my measurements.

I'd like to know what's going on with hip measurements on commercial patterns, though, cause there is no where on my body above my ankles I could be measuring that would make sense of some skirt sizing I've seen.

But I now know that my bust size is 36" (hah! not since junior high, but I'll take a sizing down, thank you very much), and it'd be cool to start trying out vintage patterns so winning one of the patterns would be neat.

I would like these patterns because I'm dying to try my hand at a coat and that second pattern is TO DIE FOR. I'm thinking royal blue lightweight material in the fourth view with some cute vintage buttons in time for Self-Stitched September! I'm drooling a little at the thought to be honest...

I would like these patterns because I have just realized the same thing as you (in reverse, I was more hoping than actually measuring, alas) - I am not a 34 bust, but a 36....And I love vintage patterns but I think the ones I have will have to be for my sister or to sell. And that second pattern especially is adorable, going to try to find it on Ebay.

'I would like these patterns because.......' I AM a 36" bust and am always disheartened by needing to grade up cool patterns because I can only find them in a 34".

Also thanks to uni I haven't sewn a thing since February and it's driving me mad. I'm getting excited because in a few days I shall be back home with my sewing machine!

I would like these patterns because I remember sewing & wearing many like these in the 60's & 70's, and would so love to sew them again for myself and my teens! I can grade them as needed; I especially love the lines in the coat. Thank you for offering these.

I would like these patterns because... I am determined to eventually provide most of my wardrobe by my own two hands. I would love to wear these styles on a regular basis, as I'm tired of the same old ill-fitting RTW selections!

Thank you for the generous giveaway!

I'm Lacey Peterson, my email is laceyjeanpeterson@gmail.com

I would like these patterns because I am absolutely in-love with vintage. Especially if/when I get married, I would love to make myself a white version of the dress or coat in the second pattern.

Regardless, these patterns would be put to VERY good use. Please please please pick me! It would be the highlight of my whole summer! (Think what you will, but it's true)

Thanks,
Lacey

Hello! I would like these patterns because of that crazy half-circle seam thing on the far-right jacket. What is that? A princess seam curving into the pocket? That is EFFING ADORABLE and I cannot WAIT to figure out how to do that so I can adapt it into a dress, too!
