About Me

Hi, thanks for visiting my blog! My name's Zoe and this blog is all about my explorations into sewing and refashioning. These passions form a big part of my desire to live a more sustainable and authentic life. I also aim to inspire and assist others in making/remaking their own clothing.

I firmly believe that sewing and creating can have a fantastic impact on mental health, and am also convinced that enjoying sewing needn't break the bank.

I'm the creator of the popular online challenges called Me-Made-May which ask sewers/knitters/crocheters/refashioners to wear hand-created clothing every day for a month. The aim is to encourage people to bring the DIY and handmade ethos into their everyday lives, and to develop a better relationship with your handmade wardrobe. The next challenge will be Me-Made-May '20, sign-ups begin on 1st April 2020!!!

Currently, I live in Eastbourne on the South Coast of the UK with my husband and our two children, Dolores and Frankie. I am a self-employed sewing teacher, and can be found teaching classes at Little Miss Sew N Sew in Eastbourne.

You can contact me at: sozoblog (at) gmail (dot) com. I'm always open to collaborations and ideas related to sewing and sustainability. On Instagram, I'm @sozoblog.

Combining fabrics in kid's clothes is a great idea! I made almost all of my son and daughter's clothing through fifth grade--jeans, pajamas, everything. I often worked with remnants, so fabric combos were essential. To my surprise, this made the clothing look LESS "loving-hands-at-home" made. The majority of factory made garments have more than one fabric, whether it's a little touch or outright color blocking. Cwoosley12@yahoo.com

That is a good smile on a happy baby although you look rather wry and bemused.

A number of years ago Democrat - a blue liberal political party - California Governor Jerry Brown banned Monsanto's Roundup - a man-made chemical similar to DDT and Agent Orange - but only after it was established that Roundup was responsible for higher rates of autistic babies among pregnant women that lived on or near Roundup contaminated land.

My cousin's husband worked in Houston, Texas for one of the big oil companies. Their only child is severely autistic and permanently disabled. Texas has traditionally been a red - Republican politically conservative - state. Would you like to know the correlation between red states, big oil subsidies, and Monsanto contaminated land not to mention autistic babies?

The true cost of gasoline in this country should really be about $20 per gallon without all those government subsidies. If people saw the true cost of plastic bottled tap water then sales would go downhill and glass bottles would become predominant again. In this regard Great Britain is more honest since gas is much more expensive than $3 per gallon.

Monsanto is an American company but they are not the only one of its kind producing toxic chemicals and Frankenfood seeds. A former Monsanto attorney has been part of the American government department that oversees drug and food regulation.

The reason that California has high rates of mercury related problems is because liquid mercury was used to extract gold during the Gold Rush. Here is where we see the Bible principle "the love of money is the root of all evil" and also "the sins of the fathers are visited upon the sons".

Even if certain health problems have gone down other health problems have gone up, especially if they are related to plastics, Frankenfood, and man-made chemicals.

I saw one retired physically disabled female scientist on PBS - similar to your BBC - who admitted partial responsibility for her health problems as she invented some of the over 100,000 chemicals that were approved in this country without proper testing for toxicity. She had tubes running in and out of her nostrils besides sitting in a wheelchair. I was grimly satisfied to see her reap what she sowed. She was not admitting the truth out of the goodness of her heart.

People become vegans for different reasons. Some are vegan for animal welfare reasons. Others for reducing their damaging environmental impact. Still others for personal health reasons or any combination of the above.

One Christian woman of the Jehovah's Witness variety told me she became vegan for health reasons as she couldn't tolerate conventional - factory raised cows that have been fed GMO corn and GMO soy - dairy products.

Many people who think they are lactose intolerant are pleasantly surprised to find out that they can tolerate milk and dairy products that come from pasture raised cows.

There are two main different types of protein, a1 and a2 proteins, in cow milk. In pasture raised milk the ratio of these two proteins is the opposite of milk that comes from GMO fed factory cows.

There is even a book devoted just to the topic of why American meat and dairy are banned throughout the world. Even China has banned American beef. I was amused to find this out. They pay premium prices for New Zealand beef. As a side note, New Zealand wool is mule sling free.

Then there is the matter of drift and cross-contamination. You must consume the best food and water that you can afford. This means the least contaminated food as I am of the opinion there is no GMO free food anymore.

Last, but not least, 90% of ocean contains some kind of plastic gyre, most of it not visible to the naked eye. This means the other 10% contains much smaller plastic particles.

Oh, I forgot the book, Three Cups of Tea. It confirms that mountaineers love climbing up high mountains and leave behind their feces, cigarette butts, and empty plastic bottles as they climb up and down those once pristine Himalayan Mountains.

You are truly blessed to have not one but two healthy babies.

A woman wrote about her parents in a letter that got printed inside Reader's Digest magazine. They grew up during the American Great Depression of the 1930s.

She explained her parents didn't have a good marriage as she could remember her dad beating her mom up. Perhaps he was even an alcoholic. Yet one day he surprised her mom with five yards of camel colored fabric. It was either wool or cashmere and most likely a Christmas present.

Her mom made a winter coat out of that fabric that the daughter later inherited. She took it to a tailor's shop to get it altered for herself. The tailor told her the coat looked like it had been constructed by a professional tailor after she arrived to pick up her altered coat.

Her mom had never worked in a tailor's shop.
