At Colette Patterns: 'Picture Appliqué'

I'm lucky enough to have a stash of Golden Hands magazines from around 1970/72 that my mate passed on to be when a mate passed them on to her. I could, and in fact have, spent hours on end flicking through them. So much about them appeals, but something that I find particularly fascinating is the way in which home sewing came from a more art/crafted angle than today. It's almost like the fast-fashion mentality is so ingrained in our culture, that it has even spread to our passtimes. I am definately guilty of rushing through a project so I can wear it and begin the next project. I can't imagine possessing or deploying the patience required to produce the awesome appliqué bodice dress pictured above. So I wrote about it instead.

I'm exactly the same, sometimes I forge that sewing is for pleasure and the art of it rather than producing something. I hereby resolve to savour my next project!

I'm a big Golden Hands fan too and I snap them up whenever I can at op shops. My fantasy is a Golden Hands holiday... weeks on end when all I have to do is flick through them and make some of the gorgeous stuff within! http://stylewilderness.blogspot.com/2010/03/entering-realms-of-tech-savvy.html
